Houston, Jeanne Wakatsuki

With her novelist husband, James D. Houston (1933–), Houston wrote Farewell to Manzanar (1973), an impressionist memoir centered on her struggles as a Japanese American and her experiences at Manzanar, a California internment camp during World War II. Readers encounter not only the camp's harmful effects on her family, but especially the effects on her father, Ko, who was also imprisoned for nine months as a prisoner of war in North Dakota.
