Pare, William

(1805–73)

In 1842, after a farewell dinner at which he was presented with a hundred guineas and an illuminated address, Pare left Birmingham to become the acting governor of Harmony Hall, the Owenite community at Queenwood, Hampshire. However, his financial acumen could not save the community from falling into insolvency, which occurred shortly after Pare had moved to London, where he was again involved in railway projects.
