When Great Britain virtually eliminated the French from North America with the Treaty of Paris, which ended the Seven Years' War, it was expected that one of the major benefits would be the elimination of a military threat to the British colonies. Instead, a new threat developed as American colonists objected to various aspects of British policy, many of which were consequences of attempting to reorganize North America to incorporate the new territory.
