Farms and Farmers in the United States

Farmers created hybrid American farms after 1750, drawing on agrarian traditions of farmers living in compact villages, working common lands. Huron, Iroquois, Pueblos, and other Indians farmed communal, clan-controlled, or village-managed lands into the nineteenth century, but even non-Indians did not farm alone.
